Nets to Reinstate Kyrie Irving as Part-Time Player

After a series of injuries and over-use of KD and Harden, the Nets have begun the process to bring Kyrie.

The Brooklyn Nets have officially begun the process to bring back All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving for road games.  Irving is openly unvaccinated for personal reasons, a decision that has barred him from playing in Nets’ home games this season.  New York City mandates all players must be vaccinated to play within the city.

In a report first announced by Adrian Wojnarowski, the Nets and Kyrie Irving have agreed on a plan to ramp up basketball activities and return to the team.  The Nets chose to fully sideline Kyrie in the preseason, rather than allow him to play in road games.  Several injuries on the Nets roster, as well as Kevin Durant and James Harden’s excessive minutes played, have led the team to this decision.  Just yesterday, head coach Steve Nash expressed concern with KD’s increased minutes being unsustainable.  Now, the seven-time All-Star Irving will be rejoining a Nets team that has seen little opposition in the standings.

Kyrie must submit negative COVID tests on five consecutive days before he is cleared to rejoin the team.  Upon his return, Irving will be required to test every day as an unvaccinated player.  The Nets are currently sitting atop the Eastern Conference with a 21-8 record.  Brooklyn has 27 road games remaining.  However, Kyrie will be unable to play in three of those as two are against the Knicks and one is against the Toronto Raptors.
