Nike’s methodical revival of its early-2000s catalog has been one of the more quietly satisfying stories in sneakers over the past year. The Air Max Plus VII, known to its loyalists as the TN7, made its return after two decades in the shadows, and the brand has been building momentum around it ever since with a steady run of colorways that reward the silhouette’s devoted following. The upcoming Smoke Grey and Hot Curry edition is the latest, and it may be the sharpest one yet.
New Balance Brings a Fiery New Colorway to the Made in UK 991v2
The upper stays true to the model’s signature construction: breathable mesh and synthetic materials carrying the dotted, psychedelic-inspired overlay patterns that gave the original its unmistakable Y2K energy. Light Smoke Grey and Dark Smoke Grey move across the base and supportive overlays, keeping the foundation clean and versatile without flattening the shoe’s inherently aggressive geometry. The Hot Curry orange arrives on the mini Swoosh as the single point of heat, and it does more work than its footprint suggests. Against the greyscale base the contrast is immediate, pulling the eye directly to the detail without overwhelming the overall composition.
The structural elements that define the TN7 remain intact throughout. The tubular caging system and midfoot arch structure maintain the silhouette’s aggressive, forward-leaning stance, while the chunky midsole houses the visible Air Max units that made the original lineage so compelling to wear. The classic yellow TN Air badges on the tongues and heels complete the picture, a period-correct detail that grounds the shoe in its origins regardless of the colorway sitting above it.
The Nike Air Max Plus VII Smoke Grey and Hot Curry colorway carries an MSRP of $180 and is scheduled to release at Nike and select stockists in Summer 2026.
