The host nation of Qatar was the first name out of the pot. Defending champion France found themselves in Group D, while the 2018 runner-up Croatia landed in Group F. Most notably, Canada qualified for its first men’s World Cup in 36 years.
Additionally, two spots are up for grabs via the intercontinental play-off. The play-off will feature four teams battling for the two spots. Australia or the United Arab Emirates will play Peru, and Costa Rica will play New Zealand. Further, one final spot is available via the European play-off. This match will see Wales face off against either Scotland or Ukraine. Normally, these play-offs would be held prior to the Final Draw. However, scheduling has been impacted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the crisis in Ukraine.
