The Man of Steel’s future is officially set. James Gunn, the filmmaker and co-head of DC Studios, has announced that the sequel to this summer’s hit film Superman will be titled Man of Tomorrow. The highly anticipated next chapter is scheduled to fly into theaters on July 9, 2027.
Gunn revealed the news himself in a post to his Instagram account. He shared a striking new illustration from artist and DC Comics president Jim Lee, which depicts Superman and his arch-nemesis Lex Luthor side by side. The caption was simple and direct: “Man of Tomorrow. In theatres July 9, 2027.”

The announcement comes on the heels of the critical and commercial success of Superman, the film that successfully rebooted the iconic character and served as the foundational launch of Gunn’s new DC Universe. The film was praised for its focus on the hero’s humanity and internal struggles. David Corenswet is set to return as the titular character, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as the menacing Lex Luthor.
The chosen title, Man of Tomorrow, is steeped in the character’s history. It is one of Superman’s most iconic nicknames, dating back to the Golden Age of comics and often used to signify a sense of hope and forward-thinking optimism. The title suggests that the sequel will build upon the themes established in the first film, following the hero as he grows into his role as a global symbol of hope.
While no other plot details were announced, the confirmation of the sequel’s title and release date is a confident next step for the new DC Universe. It solidifies Superman as a central pillar of the studio’s long-term plan as it builds towards a more cohesive and interconnected cinematic universe.
