Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema are preparing for the next round with Mortal Kombat 2, the high stakes sequel to the 2021 blockbuster. The new film plunges audiences directly into the legendary tournament where Earthrealm’s fate hangs in the balance. The champions from the first film return, now joined by the fan favorite movie star Johnny Cage, to battle the dark forces of Shao Kahn in a brutal, no holds barred fight for survival.

The ensemble cast features a mix of returning actors and exciting new additions. Karl Urban makes his debut as the charismatic Johnny Cage, alongside Adeline Rudolph as Kitana and Tati Gabrielle as Jade. They join returning heroes Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, and Lewis Tan as Cole Young. The forces of Outworld include Chin Han as Shang Tsung and Joe Taslim as Bi-Han, the original Sub-Zero.
Director Simon McQuoid returns to helm the project, working from a screenplay by Jeremy Slater (The Exorcist, Moon Knight). The production team includes powerhouse producers James Wan and Todd Garner. The film promises to deliver the authentic, R rated intensity and spectacular martial arts action that fans of the video game franchise demand.
Mortal Kombat 2 is scheduled to arrive in North American theaters on October 24, 2025.
