Rihanna to Headline Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show

Her first public performance in five years.

On Sunday, the NFL announced Rihanna as the main act for the upcoming 2023 Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show. Rihanna then confirmed the news on Instagram with a captionless photo of her holding a football. The multi-hyphenate pop star’s first Halftime Show will also serve as her first public performance since the 2018 Grammys.

Jay-Z’s Roc Nation will once again help produce the halftime show for the fourth year in a row. Last year’s halftime show featuring Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent, and Anderson .Paak was viewed by over 120 million people, underscoring the reach of the platform.

“Rihanna is a generational talent, a woman of humble beginnings who has surpassed expectations at every turn,” said Jay-Z in the official announcement. “A person born on the small island of Barbados who became one of the most prominent artists ever. Self-made in business and entertainment.”

Throughout her career, Rihanna has released eight studio albums, winning nine Grammys and 13 American Music Awards. In recent years, Rihanna has turned much of her focus to building her Fenty fashion and beauty brands. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the follow-up to her 2016 album ANTI. The multi-platinum singer has occasionally teased fans about two different albums in the years since, though details remain scarce. However, the halftime show has become more than just a performance, with artists frequently using the event to announce tours or new projects.

Additionally, 2023 is the first year with Apple Music as the official sponsor for the Halftime Show, replacing the NFL’s longtime partner Pepsi. Apple Music promises sneak peeks of its Halftime ideas via its social handle, @AppleMusic, on TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter.

Super Bowl LVII will be held on February 12th, 2023 from State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
