Mercedes-Benz’s Electric G-Class SUV Will Arrive in 2024

As the company looks to offer a fully electric fleet by 2030.

G-Class SUV EQG

German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz sent shockwaves through the automotive industry in 2019 with the announcement of a zero-emission version of their G-Class SUV dubbed the EQG. In a report from Autoblog, CEO Ola Källenius confirmed the vehicle will hit the market by the end of 2024.

Mercedes-Benz first gave a closer look at the concept version of the EQG back in 2021. Adopting the G-Class’ signature boxy design, the EQG features futuristic glowing accents and 22-inch polished aluminum rims. Rounded LED blocks illuminate a Black Panel Grille along with white illuminated bands wrapping around the exterior mirror housing and sides. For the build, the EQG uses four individually controlled motors and an independent suspension on the front axle. A shiftable 2-speed gearbox delivers a dynamic off-road driving experience. Additionally, batteries integrated into the robust ladder frame body ensure a low center of gravity. Since all-electric vehicles deliver full power at the first revolution, the EQG provides considerable torque and controllability on steep terrain.

Though Mercedes-Benz initially suggested the EQG would be available in 2025, Källenius reported that an early prototype he’d tested at Mercedes-Benz’s G-Class testing grounds in Graz, Austria was already surpassing company standards and expectations. “From now on, going off-road is electric,” he told reporters. Mercedes-Benz also plans to make its fleet of vehicles fully electric by 2030.

Mercedes-Benz has yet to reveal an exact date of arrival and pricing information for the G-Class SUV EQG. Expect more details on the powerful electric SUV to surface soon.
