The highly anticipated remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic looks to smooth its bumpy ride with a new developer. Departing from Aspyr Media, the project will now be led by one of Saber Interactive’s Eastern European studios. Both developers share a parent company in Embracer Group AB.

Last month, Aspyr Media delayed the KOTOR remake indefinitely after working on development for more than two years. The Austin, Texas-based developer cited the departure of two of the studio’s directors as reason for the decision. It’s rare for a game to switch companies mid-development. However, Embracer still intends to capture the magic of the original Knights of the Old Republic and update it using modern technology. The game will allow players to create their own Jedi and choose to follow the light or dark side of the Force.
“We’re fully confident that the game is going to be fantastic, but it’s a massive, massive product and massive products require a lot of effort and a lot of time to make good. And especially when you’re talking about a game [that’s] already old—very old—we’ve basically had to remake that game from scratch.”
Though the original schedule set the KOTOR remake to release this year, the new timeline pushes the release to 2025. Keep it locked here for more updates on the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake. In case you missed it, check out Sony’s reveal trailer for the KOTOR remake here.
