NBA 2K23 invites you to “experience Michael Jordan’s most iconic moments” with the revamped Jordan Challenge mode. First featured in 2K11, The Jordan Challenge will include 15 playable moments from Jordan’s days at North Carolina to his game-winning shot in the 1998 Finals.
FIFA and EA to End Decades-Long Partnership
The reimagined mode will feature plenty of gameplay changes reminiscent of ’90s-era basketball. This includes a heavier focus on the post and mid-range game, tighter transition lanes, and more cutting to the basket. Additionally, developers note that “hand-checking and hard-hitting body-ups” will have a different feel, possibly through haptic feedback. Further, 2K adds a new presentation package that recreates the aesthetics and hazy quality of the original broadcasts. Each challenge will also include a pre-game interview with a “luminary who was part of what made every game special.”
“The Jordan Challenge is an immersive experience, unlike anything NBA 2K fans, have seen, completely rebuilding the challenges from 2K11 and adding five new moments,” said Erick Boenisch, VP of NBA development at Visual Concepts.
“Our team took everything into consideration when constructing this game mode; the arenas, the players, the uniforms, the broadcast, and the play style of the era have been accounted for in an effort to give fans a truly authentic and unique playable Jordan experience.”
The Jordan Challenge will be playable on current and next-gen consoles when NBA 2K23 arrives on September 8. Take a second to check out the trailer for The Jordan Challenge mode in the media player above.
