Sudan Archives has officially announced her third full-length album, The BPM, which is set to be released on October 17 via the iconic Stones Throw record label. To mark the announcement, the acclaimed artist has shared a new double single, “My Type” and “Yea Yea Yea,” which follows the release of “Dead” earlier this year.
The two new tracks showcase the dynamic range of the forthcoming album. “My Type” is a groovy, dancefloor-ready cut built around a bubbling bass line, crisp sixteenth-note hi-hats, and an assuredly precise vocal flow. In her own words, Sudan Archives describes the track as her first true “rap rap song,” a confident and direct statement of intent. In contrast, “Yea Yea Yea” is an equally charming but more experimental track, playing with tumbling drums and spooky, atmospheric space synths that are reminiscent of a Flying Lotus production.

With the new album, Archives is also introducing a new persona to her artistic universe: Gadget Girl. This character represents her journey as a technologically advanced and self-sufficient musician. “I was never the girl in a band in high school—I could only express myself for the first time when I got my first iPad and started making beats on it, and when I got my first electric violin,” she explained in a statement. “I’m all gadget girled out now, but I’ve never felt so free as a human.”
The Gadget Girl persona serves as a symbol of the artistic liberation she has found through technology, a theme that is poised to be a central focus of The BPM.
