Three-time NBA All-Star Donovan Mitchell is on the move. After months of speculation, the Utah Jazz traded the high-flying guard to the Cleveland for several players and draft picks.
NBA Releases Full 2022-23 Regular Season Schedule
Donovan Mitchell burst onto the scene in 2017 for the Jazz, averaging 20.5 points as a rookie. He quickly became one of the most dangerous perimeter scorers in the league. Though there was speculation that the Jazz would rebuild around Mitchell, many believed Spida wouldn’t commit to a long-term deal. Now, Mitchell, who turns 26 next week, joins an exciting young core in Cleveland poised to make a run in the Eastern Conference. Last season, Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen emerged as All-Stars for the Cavs, and Evan Mobley was a runner-up for Rookie of the Year.
For Utah, the franchise continues its massive offseason rebuild following the trade that sent Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The main piece coming from Cleveland is Collin Sexton, along with stretch forward Lauri Markkanen and recent draftee Ochai Agbaji. Sexton, a restricted free agent, will sign a four-year, $72 million fully guaranteed deal as part of a sign-and-trade with Utah. The real haul of the offseason for Utah is the draft picks. In trading away Gobert and Mitchell, the Jazz secured 13 unprotected or lightly protected picks through 2029.
