Directed by Jake Schreier, Dave Free, & Kendrick Lamar.

At long last, Kendrick Lamar released his highly-anticipated visual for “We Cry Together” off his latest album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. The six-minute film stars Kendrick alongside actress Taylour Paige, as the two act out the track’s tumultuous fight.

The 20 Best Music Videos of the 2010s, Ranked

From the first listen, “We Cry Together” stuck out for its dramatic narrative structure sounding like an argument between Kendrick and Paige over an Alchemist beat. The video further enhances the experience by depicting the aggressive and often uncomfortable type of conversation the song is commenting on. Directed by Jake Schreier, Dave Free, and Kendrick, the visuals were filmed in one take with live vocals back in March 2020. “We Cry Together” is the second track from Mr. Morale to receive a video, following “N95” on the album’s release date. Interestingly enough, the short film is Oscar-eligible having been screened at Laemmle Royal Theater in West LA earlier this year.
