Teenage Engineering Updates the OP-1 Field with 100 New Features

Including louder speakers, increased battery life, and reworked graphic display.

Teenage Engineering OP-1

For the first time since its debut in 2011, the iconic OP-1 by Teenage Engineering receives a much-needed upgrade. The versatile synthesizer, sampler, and sequencer is the core product of the Stockholm-based company. With over a decade of experience and technology on their resume, Teenage Engineering reimagines the model, even giving the handy device a name change: the OP-1 Field synthesizer.

While it retains its mobility with the signature small, transportable form, the synthesizer receives an even thinner and slimmer profile. The team at Teenage Engineering managed to pack 100 new features into the tiny device. This includes Bluetooth midi, stereo throughout the entire signal chain, as well as reworked graphics on its high-resolution glass display. Most notably, the updated speaker system includes a passive driver for “detailed, fat, and loud” sound. The Swedish electronics company also added bumped-up 24-hour battery life and FM broadcasting. You can check out the entire list of updated features in the OP-1 Field here.

For the creatives interested in Teenage Engineering’s new OP-1 Field synthesizer, know it’ll cost a pretty penny. The gadget is available now from Teenage Engineering’s website for $1,999 USD.
