In what has become an annual tradition of honoring Kobe Bryant’s enduring legacy, Nike Basketball is set to release the third installment of its all-white “Halo” series. This year, timed perfectly for what would have been the late legend’s birthday on August 23, the brand is reintroducing the Nike Kobe 3 in its most ambitious Protro (performance retro) form to date.

The return of the Kobe 3 has been a long-anticipated event for sneaker and basketball enthusiasts. The journey began with insider rumors late last year, which slowly gained traction as leaked images and pamphlets detailing the shoe’s upgrades began to surface. Now, after months of speculation, Nike has officially unveiled the modernized classic, confirming its release and revealing the thoughtful details that define this special project.

The core of the Protro program is to update classic designs with modern performance technology, and the Kobe 3 “Halo” is a prime example of this philosophy. The shoe’s unique upper, originally inspired by the look of a basketball net, has been re-engineered with a new mesh backing that offers an improved combination of containment and airflow. The most significant changes, however, are found in the sole unit. Informed by insights from modern athletes, Nike has replaced the original’s smaller Air Zoom units with a full-length Zoom Strobel, which is paired with a responsive Cushlon 3.0 midsole and an updated traction pattern for peak on-court performance.

Beyond the technical upgrades, the Kobe 3 Protro “Halo” is imbued with a touching family tribute. The upper features a new diamond geometry pattern, a nod to Kobe’s eldest daughter, Natalia, whose middle name is Diamanté. Natalia also appears in the marketing campaign for the shoe, continuing the Bryant family’s deep involvement with the line.

For those looking to secure a pair of this special release, the Nike Kobe 3 Protro “Halo” is scheduled to drop on Saturday, August 23. It will be available via the Nike SNKRS app and at select Nike Basketball retailers, with a retail price of $210 USD.
