Late last year, BLACK COMME des GARÇONS updated a trio of Nike’s archival running graphic crewneck tees paying homage to the brand’s roots in running. Now, the two join forces yet again to resurrect an oldie but goodie from Nike’s footwear archives – the 1980 Nike Eagle.
Kids See Ghosts – KIDS SEE GHOSTS, Album Review
The Nike Eagle is a road racing shoe that was first marketed as the Swoosh’s most lightweight silhouette, weighing just 5.1 ounces. At first glance, the sneaker looks to be a sort of hybrid between the ’74 Waffle racer and ’78 Tailwind. For this 2022 iteration of the Eagle, a black leather base with smooth suede overlays outfits the sneaker. CDG branding replaces traditional Nike heel tab branding, though classic white Nike tags are featured on the nylon tongue. White co-branded text hides atop black insoles, and a thin rubber sole completes the sneaker.
Formed in 2008, BLACK COMME des GARÇONS is a subdivision of the popular Japanese fashion label. In response to the global financial crisis at the time, the subdivision began offering CDG garments at more affordable prices.
The BLACK COMME des GARÇONS x Nike sneaker is set to release on March 18th exclusively at Dover Street Market for $245 USD. In the meantime, take an official look at the sneakers in the gallery above. As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts by voting below!
