Tremaine Emory Named New Creative Director of Supreme

The Denim Tears creator will work closely with Supreme founder James Jebbia.

Streetwear juggernaut Supreme has found its newest creative director in Tremaine Emory. Working under the moniker Denim Tears, Emory is one of the biggest creative forces in the industry today. He’s previously collaborated with several brands including Levi’s, UGG, ASICS, Champion, and more. Now, he looks to take Supreme to a new level by strengthening the brand’s roots while fostering further progress.

As creative director, Emory will work closely with the Supreme design team, as well as founder James Jebbia. However, Emory’s brand impact stretches well beyond fashion. The designer is extremely vocal when it comes to creating change, both on a personal level and through his work. He’s created T-shirts to benefit Every Mother Counts to provide health care to mothers around the world, as well as up-cycled shirts given to young adults who vote. Back in 2020, Emory announced that he would not release his Converse collab until Nike – Converse’s parent company – started contributing more towards social justice and equality. At the time, Emory further explained his decision, stating:

“White supremacy and capitalism have been working for 400 years just in America alone. So, it works every day. I need Nike and every other billion-dollar company to work every day, to change it for women, for black people, Mexican people, for everybody. That’s what I need.”

In his new role with Supreme, the Queens-raised designer will undoubtedly continue to create even more positive change.

Fashion conglomerate VF Corp acquired Supreme back in November 2020 for $2.1 million USD. Tremaine is the New York imprint’s first major creative appointment since the acquisition. The sale had many questioning whether Supreme would be able to maintain their place in streetwear. For fans of the brand, the appointment of Tremaine Emory should cease all worries. Emory will also continue to work on his personal ventures via Denim Tears on the side.
