Nike Takes the Dunk Low Out to Sea and Returns with the “Ocean”

Using rigid textures and aquatic hues to mimic the great bodies of water.

For those of you who simply don’t understand the hype around Dunks, surely these will get you on the wave. With their latest Dunk Low, Nike pays their respects to the vast beauty of Earth’s biggest water source. The Swoosh delivers yet another creative rendition of the iconic sneaker, dubbed the “Ocean.”

The eye is immediately drawn to the aquatic teal textured overlays that resemble a water current. One could also interpret this as a reference to the rigid textures of the ocean floor. Additionally, the tongue tags feature another water-inspired motif that appears to be ripples in the current. Further, the tongue uses a white mesh material that could be in reference to a fishing net. The same deep teal hue shows up again for the laces and interior lining. The base layers – including perforated toe boxes, quarters, and collars – feature classic leather materials in white. Translucent outsoles are fashioned in a bright blue and white all-over pattern resembling ocean water to complete the sneaker.

At the time of publishing, it is unclear whether Nike will be making the Dunk Low “Ocean” using sustainable materials. Marine conservation is always a hot topic in discussions around protecting the environment, for good reason. If this is indeed a direct homage to the ocean as all information indicates, it’d be a bit surprising if they weren’t made sustainably.

The Swoosh has yet to announce a release date for the Dunk Low “Ocean,” but we expect it to release sometime before summer. In the meantime, check out the official images in the gallery above. As always, let us know your thoughts by voting below!
