Universal Pictures has officially released the first trailer for Jordan Peele’s upcoming horror film, Nope. Written and directed by Peele, the film stars Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, and Steven Yeun.
Kendrick Lamar & ‘South Park’ Creators to Co-Produce Comedy Film
Though the plot has been kept tightly under wraps, the trailer shows residents of a lonely gulch in inland California witnessing a supernatural event. The trailer gives very little away, but here’s what we know. Kaluuya and Palmer star as owners of a legendary, Black-owned horse training ranch in Hollywood. There’s a massive power outage, ominous weather events, and some sort of alien ship in the sky. For what it’s worth, Stevie Wonder’s song “Fingertips” also makes an appearance. The trailer is intriguing, mysterious, and sinister, and our excitement couldn’t be higher.
Peele rose to the forefront of the horror genre following the overwhelming success of 2017’s Get Out. Also starring Kaluuya, Peele earned an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. The follow-up, 2019’s Us, saw Peele once again set the box office ablaze, netting over $250 million. Both features received mass critical acclaim for Peele’s ability to highlight social and racial issues while injecting new life into the horror genre. If the first trailer is any indication, Nope is sure to be another strong showing for Peele and Monkeypaw Productions.
Nope hits theaters this summer on July 22nd. You can watch the full trailer in the player above. As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
