As anticipation grows for Matt Reeves’ upcoming film The Batman, fans continue to speculate on what direction Robert Pattinson will take with the caped crusader. In a recent interview with MovieMaker, Pattinson briefly describes how his version of the Dark Knight differs from his predecessors.
Foremost, Pattinson conceded that his Batman may be darker than what audiences expect. Pattinson says he became fascinated with the idea of taking on the iconic role after Ben Affleck opted out of plans to direct and star in a solo Batman project. Coincidentally, Reeves admits he “started writing for [Pattinson] at a certain point” after seeing his thrilling performance in the Safdie brothers’ Good Time. Pattinson also shared that he had no idea Reeves wrote the “really dirty, dirty, slimy Batman” with him in mind.

Further, such comments of Pattinson’s darker Batman hearken back to a prior interview discussing the Dark Knight’s urge to kill.
“There is this rule with Batman: he must not kill. It can be interpreted in two ways. Either he only wants to inflict the appropriate punishment, or he wants to kill and his self-control prevents him from doing so. I imagined it that way from the rehearsal of the first flight, I thought it was funnier. Something in him just wanted to slit the guy’s throat! I told myself that if he spends his nights chasing criminals, it is impossible that he does not take pleasure in it.”
The Batman starring Robert Pattinson hits theaters on March 4th. It’ll also stream on HBO Max starting April 19th.
