Nike Debuts a Regal AF1 Dubbed the “Roman Empire”

Complete with burgundy patent leather and Roman bust motifs.

Nike has brought the heat early in 2022 with plenty of eye-catching Air Force 1’s to celebrate the sneaker’s 40th anniversary. Designer Bruce Kilgore created the original Air Force 1 silhouette in 1982 as the first basketball shoe to use Nike Air technology. Nike continues to honor this legacy with yet another limited-edition Air Force 1 dubbed the “Roman Empire”.

The highlight of the “Roman Empire” AF1’s is the beautifully crafted burgundy patent leather gracing the lateral swooshes and overlays. The rest of the uppers, including the toe box, middle panel, and collar, use white tumbled leather. Additionally, hidden in the more subtle details here are nods to the city of Rome. The white tweed tongue displays an exclusive logo patch with a gold Roman bust. Just below, notice the “Air Force 1” text in a very regal Roman typeface. Lastly, the sneakers are complete with a pre-yellowed rubber sole at the base.

Nike’s 40th Anniversary Air Force 1 Low “Roman Empire” does not yet have a release date. They’re widely expected to drop on Nike’s website and with select retailers in the coming weeks.
