Fans of classic cyberpunk have a massive reason to celebrate this summer. During the AnimeJapan 2026 event the renowned animation studio Science SARU dropped a breathtaking new promotional teaser for their upcoming adaptation of The Ghost In The Shell. Set to officially premiere in July the fresh footage gives audiences a much closer look at how the creative team is reimagining the legendary Masamune Shirow universe.
‘Black Myth: Wukong’ Developer Game Science Unveils New Game, ‘Black Myth: Zhong Kui’
The forty three second clip instantly establishes a completely different visual identity for the franchise. Rather than leaning into the dark and gritty atmosphere made famous by Stand Alone Complex the developers are taking a surprisingly playful approach. The animation embraces a highly vivid retro color palette that feels deeply nostalgic. With bright neon tints and highly expressive character designs the aesthetic actually shares visual DNA with beloved nineties shojo classics like Sailor Moon and Revolutionary Girl Utena.
This vibrant new direction makes perfect sense coming from Science SARU. The studio already built a massive reputation for delivering experimental and incredibly high quality animation with massive hits like Dan Da Dan. Alongside the fresh look for the diverse members of Public Security Section 9 the teaser also provides a first glimpse at the AI equipped Fuchikoma think tanks in motion marking a distinct shift away from the traditional Tachikoma designs. This July release is shaping up to be an absolute visual feast.
