Sony’s FX30 Cine Camera is Perfect for New Filmmakers

Priced at $1,799 USD.

Sony FX30

Sony recently added a new camera to its FX series of cinema cameras. Serving as the younger sibling to the FX3, the FX30 features up-to-date specs at a relatively affordable price, making it ideal for those looking to get into video work.

Cosmetically, the FX30’s magnesium alloy body design is similar to the FX3. However, in place of the full-frame sensor is an Exmor™ R APS-C CMOS (Super 35mm format) sensor offering 4K recording and output. Its wide dynamic range still gives users that beautiful cinematic look. Additionally, the FX30 features impressive tech that was seen in much more expensive B-cams just a few years ago. Tools like custom LUTs, Flexible ISO, S-Cinetone, real-time eye AF, and 5-axis image stabilization pack plenty of value into the camera. Further, two memory slots allow the FX30 to record on CFexpress Type A or SDXC/SDHC cards up to 4K at 120p.

Set for a late October release, the new Sony FX30 will sell in a body only or XLR handle package priced at $1,799 and $2,199 USD, respectively.
