Apple is officially closing the book on its largest desktop computer. The tech giant has permanently discontinued the flagship Mac Pro workstation. The company quietly removed the massive machine from its official website and all old links now simply redirect shoppers right back to the main Mac homepage.

This bulky tower was originally updated back in 2023 with the M2 Ultra chip to serve as the ultimate powerhouse for professional creators. However the incredibly high entry price of $6,999 made it a tough sell. The system was also famous for offering some highly controversial accessories. The community heavily criticized the brand for selling a set of rolling wheels for $699 USD which many users jokingly voted as the worst product the company ever released.

Reports indicate that Apple has completely scrapped all plans for any future hardware updates including a highly rumored M4 Ultra successor. The demise of the massive desktop was ultimately accelerated by the massive success of the Mac Studio. Starting at just $1,999 USD the compact Studio model delivers comparable processing power for less than a third of the cost. Because the current Apple Silicon architecture does not support external GPUs the signature PCIe expansion slots inside the Pro lost their main appeal. This ultimately rendered the giant workstation completely redundant for modern professional workflows.
