Emily Adams Bode Aujla founded her namesake label from her apartment at 29 Clinton Street in the Lower East Side. Last season’s collection drew inspiration from memories tied to this space, the things she collected, and the parties she threw. This time, her inspiration was more abstract: the feeling of the home itself.
“We really honed in on more of the [concept] of the interior, the feeling of comfort from the old apartment,” she said from her studio in Brooklyn.
Knitwear leads the way in the Spring 2023 collection that is distinctly Bode with its blend of age-old textiles. Intarsia cardigans and crochet polos take inspiration from the brand’s archives, reenvisioned with more breathable fabrics so they won’t itch. There’s also an emphasis on pajamas, though they’re not solely meant to be worn while sleeping. One set arrives in cream with white piping while another appears in lavender and white-on-black. Bode styles pieces with collared shirts, ties, printed button-downs, and crochet vests as she proves there’s versatility in sleepwear.

Additionally, a long sleeve polo shirt reads “Hester” across the chest, presumably as a tribute to the neighborhood’s street of the same name. There’s also a quirky red sweater that reads “EVERYONE NEEDS SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN RIGHT NOW I BELIEVE I’LL HAVE ANOTHER BEER”. Elsewhere, a variety of horse-themed garments. This includes a short-sleeve button-down shirt with red piping and an intarsia knit sweater and pants set in royal blue with yellow stripes. With this collection, Bode indulges in all the things that are close and personal to her before returning to Paris for her first runway show since 2020.
