Release Information for the Salehe Bembury x New Balance 990v2 “Sand Be the Time”

Bembury's 5th project with New Balance touches down this week.

Sand Be the Time

Salehe Bembury and New Balance have presented some of the most ground-breaking footwear since their first project in 2020. Bembury’s latest effort with New Balance arrives alongside a campaign starring bassist Thundercat. First teased during Paris Fashion Week in June, here’s the Salehe Bembury x New Balance 990v2 “Sand Be the Time”.

The “Sand Be the Time” features an array of sandy orange and pink-tinted suede, mesh, and rubber materials. Additionally, a desert-appropriate purple tone graces the midfoot’s chenille N logo and other parts of the upper. The sneaker also displays a handful of hi-vis reflective silver hits on the forefoot. Fans of Bembury’s previous work will also notice the main material difference between this 990v2 and past iterations of the 1998 runner. Namely, the wide-gauge athletic mesh Bembury used on the “Water Be the Guide” and “Peace Be the Journey” 2002R collaborations instead of the silhouette’s standard tight-knit mesh.

The Salehe Bembury x New Balance 990v2 “Sand Be the Time” will release via the Be A Spunge web store on December 8 at noon EST. Spunge mailing list subscribers will receive an early access password.
