Located in the historic center of the Portuguese village of Ansião lies Casa Âmago by Bruno Dias Arquitectura. The family home organized around a central courtyard was recently awarded the 2022 Architecture Masterprize for residential architecture.
Dubai Architects Ideate a Futuristic Ring Around the Burj Khalifa
Prior to construction, the plot had two small houses in ruins with no architectural interest, therefore renovating was not an option. However, designers made sure the new property would find harmony amidst the surroundings. The one-floor building that is Casa Âmago features an impressive central patio that sets the tone of the space. “Âmago” can mean center, core, marrow, and focal point, all of which describe this area of the house.
Upon entering, the main hall leads directly to the social area, living room, kitchen, and barbecue area. There’s also a gym, study, launderette, service toilet room, and utility room. All spaces lead to the large patio on the northern side of the property. The light shines onto the lush gardens, which can also be viewed via large windows throughout the home. In the living room, you’ll find a special piece of furniture designed specifically for the space. Additionally, the home features three bedrooms and a suite to provide plenty of space for family and friends.
