Nothing, a London-based consumer technology company, recently announced a reveal date for its much-anticipated smartphone. The company calls the phone (1) “our most important product” with its release marking “the real start of Nothing’s journey.”
Back in March, Nothing confirmed a slew of rumors regarding the phone (1). The smartphone will carry a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset and run on Nothing OS, a stripped-down version of Android. The operating system “captures the best features” of Android and distills it to “just the essentials” in line with the company’s mission to unlearn everything the tech industry has taught us. You can download the Launcher (Beta) from the company’s website to try out Nothing OS now. Further, the phone (1) will utilize “bespoke” fonts, colors, design elements, and sounds.
Nothing has revealed little else regarding the product itself. However, given founder Carl Pei’s pedigree as the co-founder of OnePlus, it’s likely the phone (1) will be an attractive option in an industry slowly embracing more uniformity. The company previously released the ear (1) earbuds which have been described as one of the lightest and most comfortable products on the market. The phone (1) will likely synergize with the ear (1) to create a technology ecosystem.
“This is the start of an open and diverse product ecosystem that gives people real choice,” said Pei. “We’re building the most compelling alternative to Apple.”
