It’s hard to redesign classics. Keeping the essence of its history while updating the look is no small feat. Today we get a first look at the vision Victor Solomon has for the NBA’s top honors. With a new set of trophies already introduced publicly, with the debut of the NBA All-Star weekend and the D-League, the Los Angeles-based artist designed a new suite of new trophies, from the Conference Championship to the updated Larry O’Brien trophy.

It begins with the trophy for the Conference finals, conceptually the entire look received an update which features a quartered ball with each portion representing the roach to The Finals. The NBA will also introduce for the first time, two new honors for Conference finals MVPs named after Magic Johnson and Larry Bird.
As we move closer to the NBA Finals, you’ll notice the new Larry O’Brien trophy has a re-orientated look, designed with a pitched forward stance – which represents the progressiveness of the league and the future of the next era of basketball. Victor Solomon and the NBA replaced the old styled column net with a literal interpretation in addition to contrasting plating on ball and net seams which give the trophy depth. Additional changes include a two-tiered cylindrical column instead of the traditional rectangular base with the top surface carrying the names and dates of all previous champions, along with a blank second cylinder that is meant to carry the next 25 champions all the way to the league’s 100th anniversary.
Like that of the NFL’s Lombardi Trophy, Tiffany & Co. craft the NBA’s top honors in sterling silver and 24k gold vermeil in Cumberland, Rhode Island.
