The Weeknd adds yet another cinematic visual to his creative universe with the release of “Out of Time.” Co-starring Squid Game breakout star HoYeon Jung, the video captures fear, romance, tension, and nihilism with impressive videography.
Smoke & Mirrors
Similar to many other visuals from The Weeknd, the “Out of Time” video is like a short film. The Cliqua-directed video opens with juxtaposed shots of Abel and Jung getting ready in separate hotel rooms. Several scenes and stills from the video are heavily inspired by the 2003 romantic comedy Lost in Translation. There’s a proper meet-cute in a dimly lit elevator, a bar-side chat, and a lot of karaoke. It’s a steamy date night as the duo belts the track’s lyrics before taking off across the establishment. Following the blissful rendezvous, the dawn rises with a final sequence featuring Jim Carrey. His stern, otherworldly voiceover from Dawn FM narrates a facial reconstructive surgery he performs on The Weeknd.
The Weeknd’s Dawn FM released in January of this year, debuting at No. 2 on the Billboard chart. The album includes 16 tracks with features from Tyler, the Creator and Lil Wayne with production from Oneohtrix Point Never. You can read our review of the project here.
