The Porsche 911 (997) Sport Classic by car enthusiasts is one of the most coveted modern 911s, with fans scrabbling each time one goes on sale nowadays. Well if you were never able to get your hands on one, German sports car giant will give you a chance to one up with a new-generation Porsche 911 Sport Classic.
Modeled after the 992-gen 911 Turbo, the new Sport Classic pulls DNA from the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition and similar to that model its been made under the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur division. Here’s the downside, they’ve limited the car to just 1,250 models worldwide. Speaking on the project, Alexander Fabig, Vice President of Individualization and Classic, said:
“The Heritage Design models represent the most emotionally driven concepts of the Porsche product strategy. This unique approach sees the Style Porsche design department working with Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur to reinterpret iconic 911 models and equipment from the 1950s through to the 1980s and to revive design features from those decades.”
While based on a 911 Turbo, there’s plenty going on under the hood justify this car as a Sport Classic. It still features its widebody design, with the exception of a fix rear spoiler in the style of the iconic “Ducktail” Carrera RS 2.7 in addition to the double-bubble roof set this car features the signature “Sport Grey Metallic” paint. Other options such as “Black,” “Gentian Blue Metallic,” or custom paint options are available, but true fans know that the Sport Classic always looks best when featured in the “Fashion Grey” just like early Porsche 356’s.
Twin stripes, Porsche branding, and “60” decals are featured oh each car regardless of what paint you select, with gold-toned 911 Sport Classic badging on the rear deck. Fuchs-style rims round out the exterior, while powering the car is a 3.7-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine producing 542 HP — importantly, sending all that power to the rear wheels only via a manual, meaning the Sport Classic is the only way you can get RWD manual driving with a 911 Turbo.
Support comes courtesy of a 911 Turbo and 911 GTS-based suspension, which comes with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), dynamic shock absorbers and a ride-height lowering of 10mm. Pricing starts at $287,000 USD in July 2022. You can take a detailed look at the new Porsche 911 Sport Classic in the gallery above.
