Fifteen-year NBA veteran Tracy McGrady is widely considered one of the most skilled players to ever grace the hardwood. Affectionately known as T-Mac, McGrady quickly became a fan favorite for his flashy play and adept 1-on-1 game. Now, McGrady is taking that skill and creating a new pro basketball league – the Ones Basketball Association.
In a recent broadcast of NBA HooperVision, McGrady appeared alongside Jamal Crawford and Quentin Richardson to informally announce the project. McGrady said the league will operate nationwide for skilled 1-on-1 players age 18 and up. Crawford, widely regarded as one of the greatest 1-on-1 basketball players ever, showed immediate interest in McGrady’s idea. “I’m calling you, man. I need in,” said the three-time Sixth Man of the Year.

At the moment, there aren’t too many additional details available pertaining to the setup of the league. McGrady will likely mimic certain elements of Ice Cube’s Big3 league. Founded in 2017, the Big3 is a 3-on-3 league consisting of 12 teams made up of former NBA players and international talents. For players who had seemingly lost a step in the NBA, the league offered a chance to continue to play pro ball at a high level. Former NBA players Joe Johnson, Stephen Jackson, Glen Davis, as well as Brian Scalabrine, have participated in previous Big3 seasons. If executed properly, the Ones Basketball Association has the potential to become a major success.
During his esteemed NBA career, T-Mac was a seven-time All-Star and All-NBA player. He also led the league in scoring in back-to-back seasons in 2003 and 2004 for the Orlando Magic. McGrady became a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017.
