In the past few months, companies like Facebook and Nike have turned their attention towards the future of tech with their efforts in the Metaverse. Now, the Brooklyn Nets become the first pro sports team to officially enter the Metaverse. The “Netaverse” uses an innovative video system to develop lifelike 3D models of every player in mere seconds. The technology debuted during Saturday’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans on YES Network.
The “Netaverse” utilizes over 100 high-resolution video cameras placed around the court to render a 360-degree virtual reality experience. The visuals are relayed directly into Canon’s Free Viewpoint System to generate detailed 3D renderings of every player on the court in real-time. Fans can position themselves anywhere along the sidelines, behind the hoop, or even at center court to catch every angle of the action. With this authentic view, the Nets are hoping to offer fans a more immersive, futuristic way to watch NBA games.
