At long last, Ray Allen’s career 3-point record has finally fallen. It was only a matter of time before the Hall-of-Fame sharpshooter saw his record overtaken by the smoothest marksman in NBA history, Steph Curry. The Warriors’ star officially surpassed Allen in Friday’s blowout win over the Chicago Bulls.
Curry tied Allen’s mark with a bucket less than two minutes into the game. He set the record with a contested shot over Alex Caruso from the top of the key early in the second quarter. Curry finished the game with 40 points – including 9 made 3’s – leading the Warriors to 11-1 on the season. What’s most impressive about the feat is that Curry managed to break the record in 585 fewer games played.

Allen ended his career with 3,358 made 3-pointers, 2,973 of which came in the regular season. As of today, Steph needs just 77 more 3’s to pass Allen’s career mark for the regular season. Entering Friday, Curry was averaging five made 3’s per game, meaning he’ll likely break another one of Allen’s records within the next 20 games.
Breaking records is nothing new for Steph. He already holds records for most 3’s made in a single-season and most career playoff 3’s. Earlier this week, he broke Wilt Chamberlain’s record as the oldest player to net 50 points and 10 assists in a game. At the rate he’s going in his 13th season, Steph could have several 3-point and scoring records on lock for a very long time.
