The rumored console will likely release alongside the Xbox Series X later this year.

We may get a cheaper and less power next-gen Xbox console to go alongside the Microsoft Xbox Series X. The project named Codenamed Lockhart, takes all the key features from the Series X. And they’ll set it at a lower price point with max resolutions of 1080p or 1440p. In a leaked Microsoft document, found on Twitter, there are references to this unconfirmed console. And multiple other “Project Scarlett consoles”.

The Xbox Series X, originally codenamed Project Scarlett before receiving its official name. So the document suggests two next-gen consoles under label: Anaconda and Lockhart. If you remember, the Xbox Series X has an Anaconda snake on its main board. Although Microsoft has never confirmed the project.

The leaked document also talks about a Lockheart profile mode. A source close to Microsoft informed The Verge that this special Lockhart comes as part of the Xbox Series X developer kit. The new devkit, codenamed Dante, will allow developers to enable a special Lockhart mode. Essentially, these rumored consoles will have a high-performance mode. They’ll sport 7.5GB of usable RAM, a slightly lower-powered CPU speed, and roughly 4 teraflops of GPU computational power. For comparison, the Series X includes 13.5GB of usable RAM, and targets 12 teraflops of GPU performance.

Developers can tap into this Lockhart mode to test their games with this performance profile. We have no official confirmation from Microsoft, but you can also find the codename within the Xbox One operating system. As well as the codenames Anaconda and Dante, so there’s an excellent chance this will happen. From our understanding, Xbox’s next-gen Xbox console launches alongside the Xbox Series X this holiday season. As long as Microsoft doesn’t change their mind. Furthermore it’ll likely go by the name “Xbox Series S,” which makes sense as to why Microsoft trademarked the “Xbox Series” branding.

The new Xbox Series S will play a major role in Microsoft’s new pricing strategy. We know the Xbox All Access subscription for the Series X will definitely be on its way, it’ll be a package that includes the console, Xbox Live, and a Microsoft Xbox Game Pass for one monthly fee.

“Xbox All Access is going to be critical to both our launch for Xbox Series X as well as just the overall generation” – Phil Spencer, Microsoft Xbox Chief

Microsoft offers a Xbox One S All Digital Edition subscription now for $19.99 a month. It includes Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. So it’s not farfetched to think Microsoft will likely offer this console in the same way because they understand subscriptions are the future. Last, Microsoft will include xCloud game streaming technology into Xbox Game Pass later this year. This is another move to entice customers to subscribe to Xbox Game Pass.
