There is a particular challenge in applying bold color to a silhouette with as much identity as the 991v2. Get it wrong and the color overwhelms the shoe. Get it right and the shoe absorbs the color without losing itself. New Balance has gotten it right with the latest Made in UK release, a new “Grenadine” colorway that brings genuine energy to one of the brand’s most refined running silhouettes without asking it to be something it isn’t.

The upper is where the statement begins. Vivid orange premium suede wraps the mudguard, eyestays, heel, and side panels with a confidence that reads immediately without tipping into excess. Beneath those overlays, a slightly darker orange mesh serves as the base layer, adding texture and depth that keeps the heavily constructed 991v2 silhouette from feeling flat under all that material. The layering is deliberate and it shows, each element doing specific work rather than simply occupying space.

The restraint comes through in the grey. New Balance applied muted grey accents across the oversized N logos, laces, tongue branding, heel tabs, and forefoot overlays, creating a composed counterpoint to the warmer tones surrounding them. It is the kind of considered color blocking that separates a well-designed sneaker from one that simply has a lot going on. The fiery palette gets its moment and the grey gives it somewhere to settle.

Underfoot, the Made in UK construction delivers the lifted, cushioned ride the updated v2 collection has built its reputation on. A cream and off-white midsole carries visible cushioning pods and a darkened heel clip, while a durable black rubber outsole finishes the look cleanly. Tucked beneath it, a blue FuelCell panel adds a quiet technical detail that rewards a closer look without announcing itself to the room. The New Balance 991v2 Made in UK Grenadine drops on April 16, 2026.
