Just ahead of the release of her highly anticipated new album, Icelandic-Chinese singer-songwriter Laufey has shared a new single and an accompanying music video for the track “Lover Girl.” The song is the latest preview of her forthcoming album, A Matter of Time, which is scheduled to be released next week on August 22 via AWAL.

“Lover Girl” is a charming and playful track built on a breezy bossa nova groove and punctuated by light handclap accents. Lyrically, the song finds Laufey rueing her newfound status as someone completely consumed by a new romance, a role she never expected to find herself in. “I’m in a reckless fever, love-struck girl, I’d tease her / Thought I’d never be her / Quite the job you’ve done on me, sir,” she sings. “Oh, what a curse it is to be a lover girl.”

The release of the new single and video is building excitement for A Matter of Time, which is now available for pre-order. The album is the follow-up to her Grammy-winning 2023 album, Bewitched.

In May, Laufey also confirmed she will be embarking on a major tour in support of the new album. The set of arena dates is scheduled to begin this September and will see the celebrated songwriter performing at major venues in Los Angeles, New York City, Nashville, Boston, and Washington, D.C., among others. The tour also includes a highly anticipated stop at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre outside of Denver. Fellow singer-songwriter Suki Waterhouse will be the support act for all dates on the tour.
