Louis Vuitton Reveals the Luxurious Vanity Mahjong Trunk

A handmade six-drawer box set with monogrammed canvas exteriors.

Before they were the world’s most valuable luxury brand, Louis Vuitton was a small luggage and packing shop near the Place Vendome in Paris. The imprint defied the conventional dome-shaped luggage design of the time in favor of flat-topped canvas steamer trunks. Over time, the shop’s reputation grew as a producer of quality leather travel goods and wardrobes.

Previously, Louis Vuitton released custom vanity cases for jewelry, champagne, and chess. Its first mahjong travel trunk arrived in the 1950s, featuring satin-lined interior compartments for the game’s full set of 144 tiles with five spares. Here, the luxury house returns with the handmade Vanity Mahjong trunk. The case also holds four wooden rulers, four dice, a rounds cube, and plate. This streamlined, six-drawer box set features natural cowhide trim, rich pine green lining, monogrammed canvas exteriors, and gold brass fasteners. The hand-painted mahjong tiles are made from stone and American walnut, featuring elements of LV’s floral motifs.
