Donald Glover greeted fans with a “happy halloween” tweet on Sunday evening, accompanied by a one-minute teaser for the upcoming season of ‘Atlanta’. The surprise teaser captures a series of luscious yet bleak visuals set to Sun Ra’s “It’s After The End of the World.”
An empty theater, a tumble of chairs, and a vacant hallway give way to Bryan Tyree Henry (Alfred “Paper Boi” Miles) seated alone at a table. Henry stares into the camera, filled with fear and uncertainty. The music crescendos with screeching violins as “2022” materializes on screen, confirming the show’s return. Glover and costars LaKeith Stanfield and Zazie Beetz do not appear in the teaser.
Glover also took the time to shut down any comparisons to Lil Dicky’s ‘Dave’ in a series of now-deleted tweets.
“i cant wait til this show is out. i watch the roughs like it aint my show.”
“and just for the record, im watching yall sayin ‘dave’ is on par. like yall forgot what we did. no disrespect.”
It’s been nearly four years since the season two finale of ‘Atlanta’ saw Paper Boi and company heading on a European tour. The third season of ‘Atlanta’ was originally scheduled to premiere in 2021 but was delayed due to the pandemic. FX anticipates the return of ‘Atlanta’ “in the first half” of 2022.
You can watch the teaser on the Gilga website from 8:00pm to 3:00am local time. We’ll keep you posted on an official trailer and release date for season three of ‘Atlanta’.
