HBO is officially taking audiences back to Hogwarts. The network just dropped the very first teaser trailer for its highly anticipated Harry Potter television adaptation which is officially titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Based entirely on the beloved books by JK Rowling the eight episode first season is slated to debut on HBO and stream exclusively on HBO Max in Christmas 2026.

The new series is built from the ground up to introduce an entirely new generation to the magical Wizarding World. The teaser gives fans their very first look at the iconic characters and Harry experiencing his first year at Hogwarts. According to the official logline the story follows Harry who believes he is entirely ordinary until his eleventh birthday brings a letter of admittance to the legendary school. This opens up a massive hidden world filled with fun friendship and magic. However this incredible new adventure comes with serious risks as Harry is forced to face a highly dangerous enemy from his past.
The extensive cast features Dominic McLaughlin stepping into the legendary role of Harry Potter alongside Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The Hogwarts faculty is equally impressive with John Lithgow portraying Albus Dumbledore and Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall. Paapa Essiedu takes on the complex role of Severus Snape while fan favorite Nick Frost plays Rubeus Hagrid. Additional notable castings include Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley and Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy.
The massive production is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner. Mark Mylod is directing multiple episodes while also serving as an executive producer alongside JK Rowling Neil Blair Ruth Kenley Letts and David Heyman. Fans can officially mark their calendars for a magical return to the Wizarding World this Christmas.
