The Tom Sachs x NikeCraft Mars Yard 3.0 is officially scheduled for its public release this Saturday, September 13, marking the triumphant return of a true cultural icon.
The journey to acquire this third iteration of the Mars Yard has been as unconventional as the artist who designed it. Earlier this month, Sachs and Nike launched the I.S.R.U. (In-Situ Resource Utilization) app, which presented users with a series of weekly challenges. Those who earned enough points and climbed the leaderboard were granted the exclusive opportunity to purchase the shoes via Tom Sachs’ webstore on September 5. The program was a testament to Sachs’s philosophy. “Mars Yards have always been hard to get, and they’re always going to be hard to get. If you want them, you’re going to have to work for them,” he commented.

For those who didn’t participate in the app, the public release this weekend is their chance to own the re-engineered classic. The Mars Yard 3.0 maintains the iconic off-white, golden brown, and red color scheme of its predecessors but features a host of significant technical upgrades. The new model includes a durable black TPU toecap, silkscreen printed Swooshes, and an extended front pull tab that now serves as a lace keeper.
The sole unit has been completely modernized, now incorporating polyurethane React foam, a carbon fiber plate for enhanced performance, and a new texture at the midsole. Other signature Sachs details remain, including the option of a cork or mesh sockliner, both of which sport scientific drawings in the artist’s own handwriting.
The Tom Sachs x NikeCraft Mars Yard 3.0 will be available on Saturday, September 13, via select NikeCraft retailers. The retail price is set at $275 USD.
