Nicolas Yuthanan Chalmeau enjoys dressing up and asks you to do the same. His Sillage line mostly comprises of one-size clothing influenced by many cultures throughout the world. Yet skillfully created by Japanese artisans. The French-born, Tokyo-based designer just debuted capsule collections with exquisite Harris Tweed and Sashiko fabrics. As well as a down line with delicate floral patterns.
Following that, Sillage showcases the most recent additions to the brand’s handmade range. After a long quest for an alternative to the typical button-up, the Wide Pocket Overshirt was born.
“My partner and I have been working hard to advance our designs here at Sillage without losing the brand’s identity, our latest focus being on creating a shirt that goes beyond the typical ‘shirt’, and the new Wide Pocket Overshirt is the long-awaited fruit of our labor.”
The blue-dominant garment is fashioned using a variety of repurposed historic textiles that were cut into little square patches and put together by craftsmen in Tokyo and Okayama, according to Chalmeau in a statement.

A standout piece, the Padded Muffler received a reworked touch with upcycled military fabrics to create somewhat of a blanket/puffer that drapes over the body and has two hand pockets to provide structure to the garment. Being each item comes hand-made, each piece is one of one. No two items in the artisanal collection are the same. The Wide Pocket Overshirt is currently out of stock, but the Padded Muffler seems available in a number of options for ¥80,000 YEN / $625 USD.
