When It All Comes Together, The El3ment of Project Feel

How technology and vision brought together different creatives for three days and left behind bottled magic.

WAVYPACK TOP PICK

To think the things we’ve made can live on forever is a concept that sits heavily with creatives. We fear never being forgotten and dream of a world where we can create, love, and explore the freedom of expression fully before our time comes. Through whatever medium, we know there’s no better time than the present, although what we leave behind in time defines us. This creative spirit navigates the world with porcelain sensibilities, for they care immensely about their craft. To a level that most won’t truly understand.

Understanding that your work may not speak to many. This isn’t always the important part of being an artist. Sometimes the value is in how resonant your work is to those who experience it. No matter how few. What Project Feel brings to light is the freedom of expression in multiple facets within the realm of art and creativity through music, film, events, concerts, and much more. Within the time spent with each creative on multiple occasions. What I’ve left with is a genuine appreciation for each journey and stage in life.

The Top Hip-Hop and R&B Albums of 2022 (So Far)

With ideas that form from the unknown of event horizons and hearts as big as spacetime. The mission for this collective is pure, and the creativity flows freely, allowing each member to be exactly who they deserve to be in this life. Project Feel‘s CEO Anthony A. dedicates his entire world to this mission in giving up the securities we’ve grown accustomed, in order to push love and support to these beautifully talented and young creatives.

Each story serves as the stage to a transformative experience that we can only discern clearly when viewed in retrospect. Collaboration was at the forefront of everything done within these spaces, occupied by the collective. Safe and Sound studios, owned and operated by Justin Bjur, served as the vessel for the latest creative undertaking with el3ment. A mobile application and tech startup focused on networking and collaboration for musicians. el3ment promotes discovery, connection, and collaboration across the global music landscape with a user-experience focused mobile application. el3ment’s music matchmaking technology enables users to find their perfect sonic match, and features like in-app chat translation streamline international collaboration. Since its debut in Fall 2021, el3ment’s global music community features members from 49 different countries.

Founded by entrepreneurs Leslie Smith, a Cleveland native and Jess Rosenbluth, a passionate Philadelphia local. Who both take a great deal of consideration behind every minute detail. A trait embodied by only the greatest of visionaries, the art of caring more. While they care immensely, they were also curious, curious to discover what would happen if you aligned creatives within a space and allowed them to create freely, and in this effort joined Project Feel to make this idea a reality. A collective of creatives comprising vocalists, producers, poets, rappers, instrumentalists, artists and engineers all spent a majority of three days together. Fusing souls and personalities in an art form that most, for a bulk of their creative journey, did on their own. In some of their most vulnerable moments, they each learned to express openly their creative process and re-discovered discomfort for the first time in a long time.

WAVYPACK Radio 020 – The Place Called Home

What came of this three-day writing camp is a collection of records that are full of life, texture, color and vulnerability. As each creative learned more about their art while empathizing deeply for the struggles and walks of their contemporaries whom now become friends. Artists such as the prolific Edie Wyse, the beautifully textured Hippie Tribe, the generational talent in CeddyJay and so many more. Each artist found ground to be more open about themselves, their journey, and released deep-seated emotions into their respective art forms that day. The effectiveness of all creativity comes down to communication; how what you create makes the audience feel or think. In this endeavour, this collaboration serves as a massive success.

Each artist realized that some people have an energy that can magnify your light when you’re together. Those people are special. You won’t feel empty without them, but you will feel a little less radiant in their absence, especially if you are all force multipliers for one another. Keep them so so close. In doing so, keep making art if it’s in you to make. It doesn’t have to be liked. It doesn’t have to be sellable. It doesn’t even have to be good. Just keep making it if it’s in you. If you can’t sing it, rap it. If you can’t rap it, write about it. But make it. Very grateful to be witnessing the beginnings of so many creative legacies in this city. Love and power to everyone finding their strides.

FRANCO COLON

Franco Colon – Captured By Danica Robinson @danicarobinson
HOMETOWN: ORLANDO, FL
HOMEBASE: BROOKLYN, NY
SOCIAL CONNECTION: @FRANCOCOLON

For Brooklyn-based singer, songwriter, and producer Franco Colon, it took a lot of existential questions to arrive at the current moment. From a young age, Franco has had a big curiosity about the universe, how it worked, and his place in it. Leaving behind raw stamps of wisdom on each track along the journey, he sets the trail of compassion and honesty while disrupting the limits of the status quo simply by being himself.

Born in 1995, Franco grew up in Orlando, Florida, where he studied theatre. “Acting,” he says, “opened up a world for me to accept myself”. On a timeless pursuit to try and find his place here on Earth and how he can connect deeper with himself and in turn, everyone else, Franco unearthed his love for making music.

On a human level, we are all different. Franco’s art offers uniqueness by him solely not straying away from who he is as a human being. His music, honest and unpolished, is as spontaneous as any day can be. Franco’s unconventional hymns and production is magnetic to one’s soul. His sound becomes your sound merely after one listen; provoking the feeling of oneness.

Franco is a poignant performer who is celebrated for his hybridized brand of contemporary pop that touches upon R&B, rap, alternative, and sometimes salsa influences. His songs give people the permission to be whoever they are and he gains inspiration from music that feels like it’s more than just what’s on the surface.

As a result of his work, Franco was adopted into a new and unique art collective named Project Feel. He is part of a growing community of artists who are focused on placing the utmost importance on the substance and genuineness of their creations.

When asked what he wants to contribute to the industry, Franco refers to his song “Money and the Power” released in 2020 and why he made it; “I would love for people to see more of themselves in the artist and connect on a deeper level than money and power. Bringing it back to a place of compassion and sharing music in the delight of sharing.”

CEDDYJAY

CeddyJay – Captured By Danica Robinson @danicarobinson
HOMETOWN: BROOKLYN, NY
HOMEBASE: FLATBUSH BROOKLYN
SOCIAL CONNECTION: @CEDDYJAY_

Cedric “Ceddyjay” Preval is a dynamic rapper/artist who has been rapping since he was only four years old. Born in New York, on Jan. 28 1999, and raised in Flatbush, Brooklyn, Ceddyjay comes from a proud Haitian family with an eclectic legacy of musicianship – his great-grandmother is a former opera singer, while his grandmother and great-uncle were members of “Kraze Moonfou” (a ground-breaking house music band in the late 80s) and his mother also achieved a degree of success as a singer in the early 2000’s. Being immersed in music basically from birth, it was Ceddyjay’s destiny to become an artist himself.

Under the tutelage World Music artist, Richard “Earthman” Laurent, and with the help of his father, who also raps, Ceddyjay grew up learning how to “spit bars” and write lyrics with meaning beyond his junior years. He also learned very early how to take command of an audience, a skill he would go on to master and wield with astonishing power as a young teen at major venues and festivals.

While creating his signature hard-hitting trap rock genre backed by an explosive live band, Ceddyjay has become a regular on NYC’s underground hip-hop scene, first gaining notoriety as Afro Punk Fest Battle of the Bands winner in 2015, which lead to a performance slot at the 2-day festival attended by over 60K festival goers. Heralded by the press at Afro Punk Fest as “Top 10 Performers Not to Miss” and reviewed as “Top 10 Epic Performances,” Ceddyjay went on to perform at Afro Punk Fest again in 2016 and 2018.

RYAN J

Ryan J Garcia – Captured By Danica Robinson @danicarobinson
HOMETOWN: WILLINGBORO, NJ
HOMEBASE: KISSIMMEE, FL
HOMEBASE 2: BROOKLYN, NY
SOCIAL CONNECTION: @RYANJORDANGARCIA

Born in Willingboro, NJ and raised in Kissimmee, FL. Ryan J has made ripples in the independent music scene since his debut EP, A Rough Start, back in 2020. Considered the word smith of Brooklyn based production company, Project Feel, Ryan J fuses the sounds of his time in Musical Theatre with his die hard love of Hip-Hop. After a hiatus since moving to Brooklyn in 2021, the backwood enthusiast himself is finally making his return to main stages performing with companies such a Major Stage, Fulton Street Music Group and even his own team at Project Feel. Teasing new music at every performance, Ryan J is pumped for the new year and music to come.

A Little More:

1. Which artist living or not would you like to see create a music project from start to finish? And why?

RJG – “It’s hard to choose one so I’m not. The two I’m torn between is Rakim and Mac Miller, RIP. The way Rakim would orchestrate his rhyme schemes in a graphic format is fucking crazy to me. And Mac has one of the most incredible discographies of all time in my opinion. The growth from start to his early and unfortunate finish should be studied. Honorable mention would also be Rick Rueben cause, cmon”.

2. What can we expect from you in 2023 ?

RJG – “A lot more activity in my art. Next project will be dropping in January, entitled “Middle of The Pack.” Which is a continuation from my last record, A Rough Start. Also, a lot more live shows. Really excited to start the year from where I left off and show people why I’ve been away”.

3. what is a fun fact about you?

RJG – “I’m a huge gamer and have been for years. In the past I’ve qualified for professional tournaments for Call of Duty and spend a lot of my time playing Apex Legends with my friends around the world”.

LEIFER

From right to left LEIFER, CVMILLE, Ryan J Garcia, Francheska – Captured By Danica Robinson @danicarobinson
HOMETOWN: NEW YORK, NY
HOMEBASE: NEW YORK, NY
SOCIAL CONNECTION: @LEIFERMUSIC

Powerful New York-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist , Leifer, has two very distinct sides to his artistry. One tactfully elicits latent emotions that allow listeners to let go and move forward. The other, makes people feel happy, buoyant, and present. But both pull fans out of their thoughts and into love.

As a guitarist, Leifer has become a master chameleon when playing with other artists. Having his own sound but with reverence for each artist’s sphere. Leifer is creating a distinct musical universe and is inspired by his love for Hispanic art and literature while also being influenced by the way things come together and his Jewish perspective. His music has fantastical elements interwoven with very real-life narratives that elevate reality to a level of magic. Not afraid to shy away from brutal topics, Leifer leaves it all on the track, but very delicately.

A Little More:

1. Which artist (living or not) would you like to see create a music project from start to finish? Why?

LEIFER – If I could see any artist create a project from start to finish it would be Jorge Drexler. Jorge’s deep knowledge of folk forms and his tact for subverting them make his writing incredibly fresh and creative while drawing from his past and culture. His lyrics so often pierce my heart and mind with unique metaphors and deep philosophical insight and I feel a deep Jewish influence that I connect with as well.

2. What can we expect from you in 2023?

LEIFER – I have two very distinct projects I will be completing and sharing in 2023. One is manic, filled with funk, soul and alt rock and serves to capture the moments of joy, power, and presence between the heaviness and helplessness of the pandemic, while the other is much more stripped down and confronts those heavy aspects head on, particularly depression, identity, and the loss of my best friend.

3. What is a fun fact about you?

LEIFER – A fun fact about me us that I recently picked up tai chi. I take a class that’s basically me and a bunch of septuagenarians. I find it incredibly meditative, peaceful, and intentional. Oh and I’m famous for getting things in juuuust under the deadline.

EMILY WEEKES

Emily Weekes – Captured By Danica Robinson @danicarobinson
HOMETOWN: BROOKLYN, NY
HOMEBASE: BROOKLYN, NY
SOCIAL CONNECTION: @CRAZYCATLADY2525

Brooklyn-bred Emily Weekes seems to have been born three generations ago with her familiar, yet intricate music style. Drawing inspirations by the great artists of the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s. Emily has been a lover of sound since as early as she can remember. Growing up with her father being a drummer, and her mother bursting into song at any given moment, there was no question Emily Weekes would also dip into music herself.

From the first moment Emily could even hold a drumstick, she starting playing. There were countless hours of watching VH1 Classics and listening to her parents’ old cassette tapes that exposed her to the multitude of Classic Rock sounds with the likes of Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, The Rolling Stones, and Van Halen – with David Lee Roth, specifically. With her obsession of these ‘70’s classics, came her undying curiosity to scout the artists who inspired them. From there, she entered a world of Blues and all its sub-styles from the Delta to Chicago, showcasing such sounds from Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Little Walter, and Big Mama Thorton.

The inspiration behind her picking up the guitar came from Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Festival, ultimately convincing her parents to buy her one. She says the simplicity and honesty that comes from these early blues sounds struck a chord within her that felt so natural, she thought maybe one day she could create such a sound herself. Her deep dive into music history sparked more admiration for the craft. Music became a large puzzle, making connections from one genre to another: how Blues went electric, transforming into Rock n’ Roll or how Motown’s Soul and elements of Disco created pathways to R&B and even has sprinkled into pop sounds we hear today.

To this day, artists like Bonnie Raitt, Marvin Gaye, Bee Gees, Sade, and Prince, play a pivotal role in her songwriting. Throughout the years, on top of drums and guitar, she has picked up more instruments such as harmonica, bass, cajon, and, frankly, anything that makes a sound. As a strong believer that live performances are superior to studio recordings, Emily Weekes’ original music can only be experienced in person. She much prefers for her audience to see her and to feel her as she creates music live in an intimate setting. Emily also plays for various styles of bands such as Human Man, an ultra-expressive punk band, Benny Benson, an alt-pop band, and She Loves Boon, an emo-trap group, to name a few.

At just 27 years old, her music makes audiences feel like they’ve been transported back to the good ol’ days. “We often feel alone in our personal experiences in this world. I only hope the messages and sounds that stems from mine can branch out and reach the hands and hearts of anyone and everyone from all generations, connecting us all in ways we can universally get down with.”

A Little More:

1 .Which artist (living or not) would you like to see create a music project from start to finish? Why?

Emily – “My immediate thought was Marvin Gaye and knowing the cultural impact his What’s Going On album had in the 70s, which explores a multitude of themes from social injustice to ecological issues that we as a global community still face today. It would be so wild to hear how that would translate after all this time. Knowing the heartbreak and depression he fell under after the passing of his main singing partner, Tammi Terrell, I’d be curious to know who out of today’s artists he’d choose to collab with and what that would sound like”.

2. What can we expect from you in 2023?

Emily – “Sharing songs is something that can be a scary and awkward process for me where I can become a recluse towards others with what I’m working on. No lie when I say Jerk creates such a safe and caring space just by their presence and how they nurture the moment with the most supportive love and feedback without making you feel fretted in any way. In 2023 Jerk and I will be sitting down, perhaps even standing up at times, to start blueprinting and recording some of my songs!”

3. What is a fun fact about you?

Emily – “I think a lot about ambidexterity and I like to work on my drum rudiments to balance out the awkwardness my non-dominant hand can feel at times. For the reader, try to use your non-dominant hand for little things you tend to automatically reach with your dominant hand, examples can be opening a door brushing your teeth, or using a spoon or fork (do not try with sharp objects and be a stunad about it!). You will feel like a child at first, but all anything takes is time, practice, patience, and in doing so, you create new bridges of neurons and connections in the brain that strengthens the mind, and well, I’m no scientist, but it’s good for you, trust!”

FRAN – An artist I’d love to see her entire project process is definitely Rosalia. Fusing genres and collaborations has always been something that’s inspired me and that’s what she’s all about.
2. What can we expect from you in 2023?
FRAN – In 2023 you can expect to see my face a lot more. More covers, more live shows, more visuals, podcasts, poetry, scripts, skits. I’m getting into it all without fear running my life. It’s time for all of us.

While there’s much to be said about what transpired those three days during the el3ment x Project Feel Writing Camp. What most will probably remember was the unselfish spirit that moved throughout the room. Which allowed for honest and wholesome collaboration. Unlocking each creatives ability to move unhindered by limitations. Which is exactly how collaborations should work. El3ment wants to change the way musicians collaborate by re-imagining the way they connect and discover music and each other.

While the collective at Project Feel know no equals. The compassion, energy, vulnerability and excitement they share for each other feels spiritually genuine. There’s something so refreshing about their ability to share openly and freely as they’re acutely aware of each other feelings. Something that has long left my generation. The world is moving fast. The knowledge and level of awareness we have access to is markedly higher than generations past. This next generation of creatives are pushing the gas in their own ways, on their own paths, and it’s a pleasure to watch.

Editor’s Notes: Firstly, I’d like to congratulate Leslie & Jess. What you’ve created can truly change the landscape of music and the way artists connect with each other. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. Don’t let anyone tell you that you don’t got it, when you know you got it. This concept can and will change the world. To the team at Project Feel. My heart could burst with pride for all of you and what you’ve accomplished this year. I’m honored I’ve been within proximity to witness just a minor portion of the growth you’ve all experienced. It’s my hope that you continue to move with curiosity and compassion as we all know. Compassion kills cool in any contest. Lastly, to Anthony. I love you, I’m never not proud of you. What you’re doing with this passionate group of creatives is extraordinary. I wish all the good things in the world for you. I’ve met a lot of people throughout my career and you are by far the most selfless person I know and I’ll give everything I have to see you win. – WM
