Fortnite: Chapter 4 Goes Live with a New Map, Dirtbikes, and Reality Augments

With next-gen graphics powered by Unreal Engine 5.1.

The latest Fortnite venture has arrived with the release of Chapter 4, introducing some major new elements in the battle royale game. Most importantly, Epic Games presents a new tri-terrain island that looks absolutely stunning thanks to Unreal Engine 5.1.

The graphics update ushers in a “generational leap in visual fidelity, bringing an unprecedented level of detail to game worlds like the Battle Royale Island.” Further, the new map is noticeably smaller than its predecessors, something Epic hopes will foster more frequent, fast-paced conflict. Over the course of Fortnite: Chapter 3, players frequently praised the increased mobility provided by canons, balloons, and specialty items. This time around, Epic introduces dirtbikes, giant rolling snowballs, and the Shockwave Hammer for mobility.

In terms of gameplay, the major development in this new chapter is the use of Reality Augments. At certain intervals in every game, players will be given a randomized choice of two abilities. The longer you stay alive, the more Reality Augments you’ll earn – up to 4 – and they’ll stick with you until the end of the match. Chapter 4 features 22 Reality Augments at launch, though Epic says more will be added in the future. Further, to accompany Chapter 3’s sliding and vaulting mechanics, Epic added a new hurdle mechanic as well.

As for new cosmetics, players will have a lot to look forward to this season. Epic promises to add The Hulk, The Witcher‘s Geralt of Rivia, and Doom‘s Doom Slayer, to name a few. Additionally, the launch trailer hints that My Hero Academia‘s Deku will be joining the fight soon as well.
