The Council of Fashion Designers of America held its annual Fashion Awards in Manhattan on Monday. The ceremony honored the industry’s finest in categories such as design, styling, leadership, and influence. Among those who won awards was Emily Adams Bode Aujla of Bode with her honor as the American Menswear Designer of the Year.
It was the second year in a row Bode (pronounced ‘Boh-dee’) was honored with the distinction. Her namesake label founded in 2016 expresses “a sentimentality for the past through the study of personal narratives and historical techniques.” Bode’s clothing often sees the use of workwear silhouettes, vintage craftsmanship, and a variety of textiles. Also under consideration for the award were Amiri’s Mike Amiri, Fear of God’s Jerry Lorenzo, Thom Browne, and Willy Chavarria.
Additionally, Khaite’s Catherine Holstein received the award for American Womenswear Designer of the Year. Other nominees included Gabriela Hearst, Peter Do, LaQuan Smith, and Christopher John Rogers. Most notably, The Board of Trustee’s Award posthumously honored Virgil Abloh.
