At long last, Ash is the very best like no one ever was.

Twenty-five years since the Pokémon anime series premiered and our protagonist Ash Ketchum has finally become a World Champion. In the latest episode of the Pokémon Ultimate Journeys series, Ash defeated Galar champion Leon in the final round of the World Coronation Series.

Ash Ketchum’s journey as a Pokémon trainer began way back in 1997 when he first met Pikachu on his 10th birthday. Ash clinched the title with a team of Gengar, Lucario, Dragonite, Sirfetch’d, Dracovish, and of course Pikachu after 1,200 episodes. His final battle spanned four episodes and saw the return of former companions Brock, Misty, and Dawn. Now that Ash Ketchum has achieved his dream, fans wonder what’s next for him and the anime as a whole. Taito Okiura, vice president of marketing for The Pokémon Company International, only had this to say.

“Ash Ketchum’s determination and perseverance to achieve his goal of becoming the world’s top Pokémon Trainer over the course of 25 seasons represents the very best of what it means to be a Trainer. We cannot wait to celebrate this moment with Pokémon fans when the newest season of ‘Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series’ and this adventure-defining episode air around the world in the coming year. This is a season fans won’t want to miss!”

Ash’s victory comes just a week before the launch of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. The games will introduce the first four-player co-op as players explore brand-new Pokémon in the Paldea region.
