Following its monumental ‘Far Out’ product event, Apple has officially launched its latest software update – iOS 16. Available for iPhone 8 and later models, iOS 16 gives users a more personalized experience in what Apple describes as “the biggest update ever to the lock screen.”

For years, Apple’s lock screen remained relatively simple across devices. Now, iOS16 allows users to change the font and type style of the date and time to their liking. iPhone users can also add a depth effect to their background. Additionally, users will have the option to show either a single photo as their background or a shuffling gallery. Naturally, Apple offers its own pre-curated galleries, including a weather gallery that reflects current weather conditions throughout the day. For the stargazers, Apple’s astronomy gallery provides different views of the Earth, moon, and solar system.
Furthering this customizable aesthetic, Apple adds new widgets that streamline users’ access to alarms, time zones, and calendar events. Notifications will now show up at the bottom of the lock screen in an expanded list, a stack, or as a counter view based on whichever the user prefers.
Alongside these new personalization tools, iOS 16 gives iPhone users more ways to interact in iMessage. Users can now use iMessage to sync content such as movies or music via SharePlay. The tool can also work for collaborative projects, enabling users to share files with everyone in an iMessage thread. Among the most anticipated additions is the ability to edit and unsend recently sent iMessages. iOS 16 also allows users to mark messages as unread if they wish to revisit them later.
Other features in iOS 16 include a new “Focus” mode, live text enhancements, and improved Safari security. For all of the features coming to iPhone through iOS 16, check out Apple’s official announcement.
