Richard Mille Crafts the World’s Thinnest Watch with the RM UP-01 Ferrari

Measuring a mere 1.75mm thick.

Richard Mille has broken the record for the thinnest watch in the world with the RM UP-01 Ferrari. The Swiss luxury sports watch brand isn’t traditionally known for ultra-thin watches. But you wouldn’t know that from this impressive design.

Dreamville – D Day, Album Review

Measuring just 1.75mm from dial to caseback, the RM UP-01 Ferrari is 0.05mm thinner than the previous record holder, the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra. Unlike the Bulgari and its predecessor – the Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept – this Richard Mille assembles the entire movement into the case rather than forcing the caseback to double as a baseplate.

The movement’s baseplate and skeletonized bridges use grade 5 titanium. The RM UP-01 manages a respectable 45-hour power reserve via a single barrel and fine-gauge mainspring. The vast bezel also sees a function selector where integrated crowns control the adjustment and winding of the watch. Additionally, two sapphire crystals just 0.2mm thick cover the time indicator and the regulating organ. This ensures the watch is water-resistant up to 10m. The movement also features an entirely new ultra-flat escapement with an inertia balance wheel.

Developed by Audemars Piguet Le Locle, the watch is the first timepiece to surface from the five-year Richard Mille and Ferrari partnership announced last year. This comes across in the industrial-meets-racing design, as well as the Ferrari logo inside a divot.

Richard Mille will only craft 150 of the RM UP-01 Ferrari. For more information, check out the official website.
