HBO’s most popular and Emmy-winning series of all time continues to expand its universe. According to the Hollywood Reporter, HBO is in the early stages of developing a sequel to their blockbuster fantasy drama, Game of Thrones. The live-action spin-off series will follow the fan-favorite character Jon Snow, with Kit Harington set to reprise his role. Harington earned two Emmy nominations for his role as the action hero struggling to uphold his family’s noble values in a brutal world.

In the eighth-and-final season of Games of Thrones, Jon Snow discovered his true name is Aegon Targaryen, a potential heir to the Iron Throne. Bran exiled Snow from Westeros in the series finale, thus beginning a journey North of the Wall with the Wildlings. His desire to leave his old life behind could be a main plot point in a potential sequel series. Further, the series could also open the door for other surviving characters from the Thrones universe to appear. This includes Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner), and Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie).
This latest development means there is now seven Game of Thrones projects in the works. Foremost, the prequel series House of the Dragon will tell the story of a civil war within House Targaryen. Set 200 years before the events in Thrones, the series will not feature any characters from the mothership. HBO’s other live-action prequels in various stages of development include 10,000 Ships (aka Nymeria), 9 Voyages (aka The Sea Snake), and Dunk and Egg.
House of the Dragon arrives on August 21 on HBO Max.
