Tom Sachs and Nike are expanding their partnership with a fourth installment from the NikeCraft collaboration. The New York-based creative introduced a simple new silhouette ten years in the making: the NikeCraft: “General Purpose Shoe”.

For the General Purpose Shoe, Sachs and Nike wanted to craft a sneaker as simple as can be, and no simpler. Their final product flips the script on sneaker culture with a do-more, own-less sneaker that purposely offers more functionality than style.
“Your sneakers shouldn’t be the most exciting thing about you. They are tools, and what matters about your tools is that they work. They do their job so you can do yours. You put them on and forget about them. You focus on getting a little bit faster, a little bit sharper, on finding the signal in the noise.”
The General Purpose Shoe is deliberately “boring”. While the model resembles other minimalist offerings like the Killshot or WaffleOne, the sneaker is “an ordinary shoe for extraordinary people”. It features a Sail mesh upper paired with Grey suede overlays. The sneaker construction also includes Blue pull tabs on the tongues and heels, a microfiber collar, and ultra-breathable knit materials. Further, Tom Sachs branding appears behind the tongues while the NikeCraft logo discretely sits on the insoles and outsoles. Down below, gum midsoles loaded with EVA foam cushioning make up a three-piece molded cup sole to complete the design.
The Tom Sachs x NikeCraft “General Purpose Shoe” will release on June 10th for $110 USD at select retailers and Nike’s website.
