Nike SB’s “BRSB” Fuses its Classic Skate Model with the Cortez

The Nike sublabel introduces a new BRSB model that honors the classic Cortez

Nike’s SB label is fusing their classic skate shoe with the iconic Cortez for its 50th anniversary. The silhouette debuted back in 1972 and has been a staple for Nike ever since. As a nod to the Swoosh’s humble beginnings, Nike named this sneaker the Blue Ribbon SB “BRSB” in honor of the company’s original name, Blue Ribbon Sports.

Nike Dunk Low “Championship Court Purple” to Drop in May

The Nike Cortez initially grew in popularity after it was seen as the shoe of choice for Forrest Gump’s cross country run. The Cortez was further popularized by George Costanza in Seinfeld and Whitney Houston as she sang the national anthem at the 1991 Super Bowl. Further, the sneaker became synonymous with the culture of Los Angeles, increasing demand worldwide.

The OG Nike Cortez red, white, and blue colorway was the first track shoe created by the Swoosh. For the BRSB, Nike keeps the same signature palette with a touch of retro components. The forefront of the shoe sees cream-colored suede running up a jagged eyestay overlay. A rich shade of red graces the lateral Swoosh and heel tab, as well as the mini embroidered Swoosh accent. The rest of the uppers of the BRSB use Nike’s white patent leather. Additional specs include white laces and interior lining and a red Nike SB branded tongue tag. Finally, a white midsole and outsole sandwich a React foam drop-in insole, peeping out for a shot of Periwinkle Blue.

Expect further information from Nike regarding the release of the Nike BRSB in the coming weeks. In the meantime, take a second to peruse the official images in the gallery above. Be sure to give these sneakers a score in the poll below!
